OW

DEAR UNCLE JERRY AND EVVYBODY

HI.  I GOED TO SEE DOCTOR SAM.  SHE IS NEW.  SHE IS NICE AND NICE.  SHE TOUCHED ME GENTLE.  WHEN SHE PUSHED ON MY ELBOW I JERKED!  MY HEAD AWAY CUS IT HURTED.  I DID NOT CRY OR SNAP.  DR SAM SAYS MAYBE I HAVE ARTHRITIS IN MY LEG.  OR MAYBE NOT.  WE COULD HAVE A X RAY TO TELL FOR SURE BUT WE CANT FORD IT.  SO WE WILL ASSUME I HAVE IT.  SO I AM ON REST TIME.  I AM NOT LOUD TO RUN OR PLAY OR GO OUT.  CEPT TO GO POTTY.  I DO NOT LIKE TO BE CONFINED.  I DO NOT HAVE TO STAY IN MY CRATE.  DR SAM GIVED TO ME MEDICINE CALLED RIMADYL.  I TAKE IT IN CREAM CHEESE.  I LIKE CREAM CHEESE.  I DO NOT MIND TO TAKE MY MEDS.  SO I JUST TAKE IT EASY TO LAY DOWN A LOT.  I HAVE SOFT BLANKETS ON THE COUCH AND THE CHAIR TO SLEEP.  I HAVE TO REST FOR 2 WEEKS.  THEN GO BACK TO SEE DR SAM GAIN.  MOMMY THINKS I WILL PROLLY HAVE TO TAKE MEDS FOREVER BUT WE DONT KNOW YET.

MOMMY BUYED FOR ME LITTLE STEPS TO GO UP TO THE COUCH.  I CAN DO THE FIRST 2 STEPS WITH MY FRONT PAW.  I CAN NOT PUT MY BACK PAWS ON THE STEPS YET.  MOMMY SAYS I WILL LEARN.  SHE PUTS TREATS ON THE STEPS.  I LIKE IT.  SHE HOPES I LEARN TO GO DOWN THE STEPS SO I WILL NOT JUMP OFF THE COUCH ANYMORE.

DEAR NICE DOGS DID YOU EVER HAVE ARTHRITIS FORE?  CAN YOU TELL TO US WHAT HAPPENED PLEASE?  WE NEED TO KNOW.  TY.

LOVE FROM

  1. Any info and advice about arthritis in a front leg amp would be very helpful. He’s 10″ tall and 10.7 lbs. About 1/3 of the time he asks me to lift him down off the couch.

  2. aww Sparky. I am sorry to hear about the possible diagnosis. I hope it turns out ok. I don’t know about arthritis in our tripawds. I wish I could help more

  3. Awwwww. ‘Lil Sparky buddy! We are so hoppy to hear from you! But we are soooo sorry to hear you are hurting!

We gots lots of arthritis at our house. And none of us can tolerate Rimadyl ’cause our paw sez it gives us “intestinal meltdown”, guess that means lotsa runny poop….So we tried stem cell injections but that only worked for a little while. And we could only ‘ford to do it ’cause we signed up for a study and it was free (well sorta, we still had to pay for xrays and blood work).

Last time we went to the vet she was hot about platelet rich plasma therapy. Tell your mama to look that one up ’cause we have not tried it yet. What about acupuncture? Our mama gets the needles and sez it helps alot.

Do you take any supplements for joints? Like glucosamine? Or Dasuquin? Or Salmon oil? Those would probably be the most affordable. We get the last two every day and papa takes glucosamine and it helps his knees alot.

Try real hard not to jump off things. Your mama has the right idea with the steps. Our 4 legger old man Smokey loves to jump and pronk even tho he is 9 years old and has baaaaad arthritis in one of his elbows. When he jumps off the deck he always comes up real lame.

We LOVE you Sparky and we hate it that you hurt!

Sending lots of love and kisses from the Oaktown Pack!

  4. Ow is right my fwend. I am sorry you are still hurting. You and your Mommy and the nice doctor lady have a good plan though, I’ll bet it will work out. The key is not to overdo things. You know as much as we want to run and go crazy, many Tripawds just can’t do it and need to take it easier. I’m thinking that a nice doggy chariot is in your future to help you get around to go to the bank and places like that. Imagine: your momma would be your chauffer! Now isn’t that cool?

Just take it easy and see what happens OK? Try not to worry. But please let us know what’s going on, we will be thinking of you.

    Love,
    Uncle Jerry

  5. Awww Sparky, sorry you have an owweee!

You’ve gotten great advice. Definitely search the site for arthritis treatment. There really are a lot of success stories. Martha gave you some good things to check out.

You may also want to PM Karen…Pug Maggie…..she also dealt with it and had good results with injections…I think….not sure though!!

I love the visual of your momma being your chauffeur and drivi g you around in your chariot!!

Sparky, I’m sorry for the “nature” of your post today, but they are always DELIGHTFUL to read!! You speak and type so well!!!!

Yeah, keep on getting treats for putting your front paw on those steps! If your mom wants you to put your back legs up those stels…hold out for STEAK treats!

Keep us updated when you can.

    Sending lots of healing love!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
